Corporate post-editing · MTPE · Tokyo, since 1987

Machine translated it.
A bilingual editor fixes it.

You already have a machine-translated draft. We refine it for accuracy, fluency, terminology, and style—while keeping the original meaning and intent.

Post-editing and translation are different services

Post-editing starts with machine-translated text. Translation starts with the original-language source. The two services therefore require different workflows, levels of review, and pricing. Contact us if you have any questions about which service is right for you.

If you are unsure which you need, say what you have — a source document, or a source and a draft translation — and the coordinator will tell you which service that is.

Rates

Two levels: Light and Full

Light checks that the original meaning is preserved. Full also checks fluency, approved terminology, and alignment with your organisation’s voice. Each level is priced per source word.

No machine translation to start from?

Then this is not the service

If you have the original-language document but no machine-translated draft, you need translation rather than post-editing. Post-editing assumes you already have a machine translation ready to edit.

Corporate translation, from 23.10 円

Both directions are priced the same; the quote states which one you ordered.

Four checks

What a bilingual reviewer looks for

Machine translation may get the words right, but it can be unreliable when it comes to meaning, fluency, terminology, and tone. Our bilingual reviewers focus on the aspects of machine translation that are most likely to need correction, ensuring that your text is accurate, natural, and appropriate for your organisation.

Accuracy

The original meaning is preserved accurately in both Light and Full service levels. A fluent translation is of little value if it says the wrong thing.

Fluency

Included in the Full level only. The translation reads naturally in the target language—not like a translation, but like text originally written for that audience.

Terminology

Included in the Full level only. Your approved terminology and glossaries are applied consistently, including across documents and projects.

Style

Included in the Full level only. Tone, register, and level of formality are matched to your organisation and audience.

Both directions

English to Japanese by native Japanese linguists; Japanese to English by native English editors/translators. Both directions receive the same specialist attention.

Confidentiality

Your documents are protected by FORTE's established confidentiality and Privacy Mark safeguards.

Why it matters

Machine translation cannot
carry your brand

Machine translation alone does not guarantee brand integrity or professional nuance. Post-editing is what makes the output reflect your values, your voice and your quality standard — in every market.

Post-editing of machine translation is also the honest middle option: cheaper than translating from scratch, better than simply publishing what the engine produced.

Ideal for corporate content such as

Business reports and presentations

Technical documentation and manuals

Marketing and branding materials

HR and training materials

Customer support and website content

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Questions procurement asks

Post-editing starts from machine output that you supply and corrects it against your source. Translation starts from your document and is produced by a subject-matter translator, with no machine output at any stage. Different work, different price.

Light checks accuracy only — that the meaning of the source survived. Full also checks fluency, your terminology and the style, so the text reads as though your organisation wrote it.

Both: the source document and the machine translation. The reviewer works by comparing them, so a draft on its own cannot be checked.

Yes. English into Japanese by native Japanese linguists, Japanese into English by native English editors. Neither direction is an afterthought.

Yes, and across jobs: approved terms are kept and reused, including on documents you send months apart.

Yes — the same NDA, the same Privacy Mark handling and the same named-access rule as every other Forte service.
